Above all, we are thinking of the paintwork carried out according to the colour codes of Asian cars, and in particular, the colour codes of Honda cars. However, it may also be necessary to have a primer, and also in most cases, a topcoat.
The execution of the different stages of the manufacturer's paint process according to a Honda code is relatively easy and accessible to anyone, as long as the applicator has read all the instructions relating to the paint - that is to say, its mixing and application, but above all, the proper preparation of the surface.
To order paint with your Honda colour code, the procedure is quick and simple: simply determine and select the desired packaging from the drop-down menu on the product page below. It can be a can of paint or an aerosol.
You must then enter your reference, that is to say the code made up of numbers and letters, in the field provided for this purpose - or simply send us an email just after completing your order.
Our team prepares the paint immediately if your order is placed before 3 p.m. Thirty minutes later, the parcel is dispatched and you receive it within 24 hours in France, or in 48/72 hours in Europe.
To choose the right quantity, and to keep it short and simple: it takes approximately 1L of paint to cover 5 m². If the part you are painting does not exceed 1 m², you can select the 250 ml format.
We also offer 500 ml formats and kits, which include two products: the pure paint and its thinner. The 250ml and 500ml formats are ready-to-use paints, meaning they are already diluted and ready to paint.
If you already know the colour reference on your car, here is a quick summary of the steps for applying the paint to the bodywork. If you do not know your vehicle's paint code, go to the next paragraph, where we explain how to locate it.
Do you need a primer before application ?
In most cases, no. If the surface of your bodywork is in good condition (i.e. no dents or deep scratches), you can apply the paint directly - provided the surface has been lightly sanded with a 500-grit sanding sheet.
If your vehicle has been damaged (for example, repaired with filler), or if there are visible scratches, then yes - you must apply a filling primer. This primer helps fill surface irregularities. Once dry, it should be sanded to achieve a perfectly smooth base.
The Honda colour code paint is easy to apply. There is very little risk of runs with modern solvent-based paints. All contemporary Honda shades are metallic or pearlescent, and we supply them in the “1K basecoat” version (i.e. base to be varnished).
Paints with Honda colour code from before the 2000s, are sometimes 2K paints types. These come with a hardener and are applied like a clearcoat, in two glossy coats spaced 10 minutes apart.
On the other hand, 1K basecoats, are called two-coat paints (one coat of paint, one coat of topcoat), are applied in several very fine layers, with minimal drying time between coats. They must be topcoated promptly after application.
Honda Motor Corporation, based in Japan, is a multinational company known for manufacturing motorcycles, engines and electrical equipment, as well as automobiles.
Its founder, Soichiro Honda, was a car enthusiast. He began as a mechanic, tuning cars and racing them. In 1937, with help from a relative, he launched his first company, producing pistons. Honda was a visionary in engineering, designing automated machinery for parts production. After the Second World War, and following the acquisition of 40% of the company by Toyota, Honda entered the second half of the 20th century with growing expertise and recognition. It then ventured into motorcycle manufacturing - with remarkable passion and energy.
By the late 1960s, Honda had become the world's laeading motorcycle manufacturer. To date, the company has produced nearly 400 million units. It also became the leading global manufacturer of internal combustion engine, producing around 15 million engines per year.
In 2001, Honda became the second-largest car manufacturer in Japan. It also pioneered the luxury vehicle segment in its country with the ACURA brand, launched in 1986.
For HONDA vehicles, the VIN plate showing the paint colour code can be found in five different places:
- Inside the engine bay, under the bonnet, near the base of the windscreen.
- On the driver's side front door leaf.
- On the driver's side rear door leaf.
- In the glove compartment.
- In the boot, near the left rear light or inside the boot door.
You can refer to the illustrative images provided below to help locate it.
The Honda paint code is always composed of three characters (letters or numbers).
Painting a car or a motorbike - is it easy ? It's all about preparation and cleanliness, as well as how you handle the spray gun or the aerosol (visit our blog for more advice !).
Today, the Honda brand is paired with ACURA, its luxury vehicle division, within the body colour database.
Vehicle colours are internationally classified according to a harmonised code, which consists of several letters and numbers, and is always accompanied by the commercial name for the colour.
Here is an example of Honda/Acura car paint :
B84P SUPER MARINE BLUE HONDA/ACURA 1996 - 1999
B90P SUPERSONIC BLUE HONDA/ACURA 1997 - 2003
FD95-9108P SUPER BLACK HONDA/ACURA 2005 -
NH704M SUPER PLATINUM HONDA/ACURA 2005 – 2021
This list follows the standard format : the paint code, the colour name (used for identification), the brand, and finally, the production year range of the paint.
For regulars users, it's easy to recognise that some shades are used on both cars and motorcycles.
