History of the DAEWOO Manufacturer

DAEWOO is a Korean company founded in 1967, known for its rapid growth and diverse activities.The group operates across many industrial sectors, including: Construction, Defence, Consumer electronics, Shipbuilding, Aircraft manufacturing …and of course, automobile production.

DAEWOO even ventured into computers and firearms, although it was heavily indebted and backed by the Korean government. In 1999, DAEWOO was dissolved by the government after a fraudulent bankruptcy scandal. Its CEO was imprisoned, and the group was split and renamed.

Yet its activities continue under different names. In 2005, the automotive division of DAEWOO became Chevrolet, after being purchased by General Motors. This allowed GM to expand into Asia and cut costs through local production.
