You are the owner of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and you plan to carry out a complete respray—or simply a touch-up on one panel—using the colour codes of American motorcycles, in other words the Harley-Davidson colour code specific to your bike.
In this category you can order OEM Harley-Davidson paint.
To do so, you must know the colour name or Harley-Davidson colour code and send it to us by email after ordering, or enter it in the text field provided at the basket stage.
Harley-Davidson paints are distinctive. They often differ from those of other manufacturers. We supply them in a solvent-based version rather than a “hydro” version; this formula offers easier application and, above all, a much longer service life than modern water-based bodyshop paints.
Two formats are available: aerosol or can. For cans, the small sizes (0.25 L and 0.50 L) are pre-diluted and ready for use, while the kit sizes contain undiluted paint plus thinner.
If we receive your order before 3 p.m., our colourist can prepare the paint immediately and ship it before 4 p.m., for next-day delivery in France or within 48–72 hours elsewhere.
Calculate your needs: coverage varies by colour, but in general allow about 250 ml of ready-to-use paint per square metre.
When refinishing, you will always need a finishing Topcoat. For most Harley colours you will also require a base coat—either a primer or, in certain cases, a specific “first coat”.
Harley-Davidson motorcycle colour codes
Harley shades are frequently special finishes and can be a little more complex to apply than standard motorcycle paints. Tri-coat systems are common. Even if you already have the colour reference, you might not realise it is a three-layer paint; our colourist will advise you and, if necessary, recommend the specific undercoat. This can be arranged quickly by telephone.
If a specific undercoat is required, you will need to order an additional paint. The drawback of tri-coat systems is the extra stage, but the visual depth and light effects are superior to those of a conventional two-layer paint.
Application can of course be carried out by a professional in a spray booth, who may choose to use his own Topcoat. You can also apply your Harley paint yourself at home; ensure good air circulation and lightly wet nearby surfaces to trap dust. Dust mainly affects the clearcoat: the basecoat is thin and can be sanded before varnishing, whereas the Topcoat may need polishing to remove imperfections.
The history of Harley-Davidson
Harley-Davidson, founded in 1903 in Wisconsin, began in 1901 when William Harley, aged just twenty, built a 116 cc engine for a pedal bicycle. Together with his friend Arthur Davidson, he produced the first prototype moped. In 1906 the first factory opened, producing nearly fifty motorcycles that year.
During the First World War the company supplied almost 20 000 machines to the US Army. Along with Indian, Harley was one of only two motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression. Over more than a century the firm has weathered competition, crises and changes of ownership, yet become synonymous with customised styling and large-capacity V-twin engines. Production now spans the USA, India, Brazil, Thailand and beyond.
Where to find the colour code of your Harley-Davidson ?
You will not find the Harley colour code on the tank or fairings, nor on the registration document. If you bought the bike new, the original handbook should list the colour name and code.
Otherwise, specialist forums are invaluable: the Harley community is vast and information on paint is widely shared. Once you obtain a code, feel free to email us for validation—we reply seven days a week.
The iconic colours of Harley-Davidson
Harley has no single “house” shade, although some finishes feature distinctive metallic or heavy-flake effects unique to the brand. Recent codes can be difficult to reproduce, as Harley guards its proprietary formulas; typically it takes two years before new colours are matched by colour laboratories such as ours.
