Ordering an original Mercedes paint job is very simple and can be done in 5 minutes on our website. We have the formulas for all the colour codes of German cars and, among others, the colour codes of Mercedes cars, thanks to our software for manufacturer colours and our laboratory specially dedicated to the production of car brand paints.
What you need above all is to know your Mercedes colour code. With this, all you have to do is go to the page below, titled 1K basecoat, in which you can see the instructions, and where you will simply need to select the right packaging.
This packaging can be either a can of paint if you have a paint gun or if you are going to entrust the job to your bodywork specialist.
Where is the Mercedes colour code marked on the order page ?
The reference of your colour must be sent to us during or after the order, simply by email. During the order process, there is a small box where you can enter your code, which consists of a few numbers or letters.
The choice of packaging
The paints in small cans of 250 ml or 500 ml are pre-diluted versions, while the 2L kits are composed of pure paint (1L) plus the thinner supplied separately ( 1L).
For these versions, you simply need to mix the thinner with the paint, at an average ratio of 100 parts paint to 50-70 parts thinner.
You always need slightly more paint than expected. In general, 1L of diluted paint is required for 5 m². This means that you can paint a wing with 250 ml.
Be careful with aerosol format: when it says 400 ml, this includes both gas and paint - there is very little paint in an aerosol (about 25%).
Do you need a primer when painting your Mercedes vehicle ?
In general, no, it is not necessary. A primer is only needed when you have major scratches or have carried out large repairs, particularly with filler.
If your old paintwork is in good condition, you can paint directly over it, after sanding with 500-grit sandpaper.
Varnishing
Do not forget that it is essential to apply a bodywork topcoat. Indeed, 1K basecoats must be varnished.
We invite you to read the entire product page for Mercedes colour code paints carefully. It includes important information about application, mixing, preparation, and varnishing. Automotive paintwork is not a rough or approximate task. To succeed with your project, whether you are a professional or a beginner, the key is to scrupulously follow the instructions.
Modern colors - and this applies to all Mercedes colour codes - are almost all pearlescent or metallic. Opaque gloss colours have not been produced for about twenty years.
The characteristics of modern pearlescent or metallic colours imply that they are delivered in a special paint formula :
whether the Mercedes brand colour code paint is water-based or solvent-based, it will always be supplied in a 1K basecoat version. This term refers to a single-component paint that is part of a 2-step system: paint and Topcoat.
We all know the famous brand Mercedes-Benz. Although the prestigious German manufacturer was officially founded in 1926, its founder was one of the pioneers of the automotive adventure, having started nearly 40 years earlier under the name DAIMLER - which is also his surname. This inventor originally worked on combustion engines. While his competitors were manufacturers of car parts, bicycles, or other steel components, Mr. Daimler was a specialist in internal combustion engines.
In 1926, Mercedes-Benz became dedicated to the production of all kinds of vehicles, especially buses and lorries.
From 1930 onwards, thanks to its experience and specialisation in engine technology, Mercedes demonstrated its superiority in the field of motor racing, where its only serious competitors were Italian brands such as Ferrari. Mercedes' success in the racing world continues to this day.
The first passenger cars from Mercedes-Benz date back to 1926, with the production of the first model name Wo1, in partnership with Ferdinand Porsche. Like all other car manufacturers worldwide, the pre-war and World War II periods placed considerable pressure on Mercedes factories. However, this allowed the company to make a technological leap and expand its production capacity - particularly through the manufacture of thousands of lorries.
Did you know that Mercedes produced the fastest car in the world, with a V12 engine and 44-litre displacement, reaching a record speed of nearly 700 km/h ?
In the case of MERCEDES car paints, the plate (VIN plate) indicating the colour code can be found in two possible locations.
- Inside the engine compartment.
- Inside the front left door on the driver's side.
You can refer to the images provided below, which illustrate the exact location.
The colour code is always composed of 2 to 4 digits.
It is pointless to look for the Mercedes colour code on your registration document, as it is not mentioned there. You can check the original vehicle manual or contact your dealer. If you have any doubts about the reference you found, simply write to us at colors@stardustcolors.com and we will confirm your code within a few hours.

The Mercedes colour range is vast. The German brand's colour codes form a list of several hundred references, dating back to the 1950s - more than 70 years ago.
There are no truly emblematic shades from the German manufacturer, whose hallmark is sobriety.
Here are a few examples of colour codes, always associated with a colour name and a year of use or release:
158 WEISSGRAU MERCEDES 1965 - 1972
1584 BRONCEGELB MERCEDES 2020 -
159 KARDINALROT MERCEDES 2001
In order for us to validate your colour, you simply need to provide us with one of the two pieces of information: either the Mercedes colour code or its name.
Question : can you apply a matt or satin varnish over the manufacturer's colours ? Yes, absolutely. Discover our range of matt varnishes in the MATT VARNISHES category.
