It is available in various packagings and versions: either pure, pre-deluted, or in aerosols or cans. One particularity of KIA paint codes is that the manufacturer has not consistently named the colours. In many cases, the code is not  accompanied by a descriptive name, making it less practical to identify the shade at a glance.

KIA's history dates back further than many believe - the company was founded in  1944. Its name comes from its founder, John Kia Key. At first, he produced steel parts and accessories for bicycles, and the company was primarily involved in motorcycle production. In 1971, KIA entered the automotive world in partnership with Fiat, initially assembling Fiat models for the Korean market. With gained experience, it quickly began producing vehicles under its own brand, becoming KIA Motors.
Its success grew rapidly, fuelled by collaboration with international manufacturers such as FORD. After facing financial hardship, the company was acquired by Hyundai in 1997. Today, KIA is widely recognised for producing economical, comfortable, and  reliable hybrid and conventional vehicles and is particularly well-established in Europe.

For KIA brand vehicles, the plate indicating the colour code (VIN plate) can be found in three locations:
- Inside the engine bay, under the bonnet, on the engine or near the radiator.
- On the rear door frame, right or left side (driver or passenger).
- In the boot, near the rear left headlight or on the inner side of the boot door.
