If you have acquired a jeep vehicle in Europe and wish to obtain paint for a bodywork repair, you can send us your request and we will consult our database, which contains the colour codes of American cars - including Jeep car colour codes, which, exceptionally, are not listed under the Jeep brand name.
Indeed, the American manufacturer is now owned by the Italian brand Fiat. It should also be noted that in 2021, Fiat, Chrysler and PSA merged to form the Stellantis group. Jeep colour codes are therefore shared across the Chrysler, Fiat and PSA brand databases.
Jeep is an acronym that stands for "Just Enough Essential Part". These vehicles are known for their distinctive image and strong personality, designed to be as simple and lightweight as possible. Today, Jeep vehicles are manufactured and marketed on all continents, and naturally benefit from the SUV trend. Modern Jeep 4x4s retain their powerful and robust character, while gaining in size and refinement.
If you need advice on selecting products or paint references, or would like to learn more about the different techniques for repairs and refinishing, feel free to contact our technical support team. You can also consult the detailed product pages, which explain the steps from A to Z. Briefly, vehicle paintwork nowadays is done in three basic stages.
First comes the application of a primer using a spray gun. This step is optional and only required if scratches are present or if there has been significant surface repair using filler.
Second comes the paintwork, done according to the Jeep car colour code. This code can be found in several locations (see next paragraph). The paint is used with thinner, and no hardener is added, as it is a 1K basecoat to be finished with a Topcoat.
This brings us to the third product: the Topcoat. It provides protection for both the bodywork and the paint layers, and adds the gloss finish. It is a 2K product. Is a jeep 1K basecoat resistant to abrasion or fuel ?
No, unlike 2K paints,1K basecoats are not resistant until they have been finished with a Topcoat. For this reason, stage 3 - varnishing - is essential.
The history of Jeep, now a renowned American 4x4 brand, began in 1945 with the launch of its civilian models. However, its roots go back to 1936, when it was supplying the US Army as a subcontractor following a government tender. Previously, during all wars, the US government had used Ford vehicles.
Seeking to develop a new type of lightweight, four-wheel-drive, all-terrain vehicle, the government issued an open challenge to all American companies. The contract was ultimately awarded to one of the smallest and least-known firms, which rose to the occasion. An alliance with Ford and Willys was later formed, and around 600,000 vehicles were produced between 1941 to 1945.
We reproduce all Jeep paints for the iconic American brand. Our color department has nearly 500 references covering all Jeep models since 1950.
For JEEP vehicles, the colour code plate (VIN plate) can be found in two locations:
- In the engine bay, under the bonnet, above the right front wheel.
- Inside the boot.
You can refer to images below for guidance. The JEEP paint colour code is always made up of three characters (letters or numbers).
Olive green has been the defining colour of Jeep vehicles since the brand's military origins. It is a khaki green created using an old-school finish with a certain level of matt effect.
Today, new models (Cherokee, Wrangler, Renegade) are finished in much more specific and refined colours, incorporating pearlescent or metallic pigments in paints intended for the general public. The latest models in the Renegade range are particularly well-known for their stunning deep black - a pure shade with any pearl or metal particles, enhanced with a superb Topcoat.
