For the past 20 years, vehicles have almost exclusively used pearlescent or metallic paints. These are applied very differently from the older, solid, single-coat paints.
Those older paints were glossy, resistant and applied in a single layer - they are bi-component polyurethane paints (2K paints). They still exist and are offered in this category, mainly for older colours or for trucks.

Dodge paints are generally pearlescent or metallic and are applied using the modern two-step car paint system: first a 1K basecoat, followed by a topcoat (bodywork clearcoat).

It is therefore the final clearcoat that provides both the gloss finish and the ultra-durable  protection of the paint system underneath, as well as the underlying metal bodywork.
A Dodge metallic pearl colour code corresponds to a single-component paint - this is the basecoat. It is easy to apply and not prone to sagging or runs.

History of the Dodge manufacturer

The brand with the ram's head logo was founded in 1901 by two brothers who initially made  bicycles (Dodge bicycles), in the Detroit region, USA. They also produced parts such as bearings and engine components used in the manufacture of automobiles. They made a fortune in this field and were soon approached by other manufacturers, including Henry Ford, who also just beginning vehicle production.
Dodge became part of Chrysler in the late 1920s, and was later taken over by Fiat. The brand has long been associated with reliability and experienced continuous growth throughout the 20th century. The only market where Dodge did not find great success was Europe.
