To order an original colour online, the process is extremely simple and fast: all you need is the paint reference code for your BMC vehicle. To locate the colour codes of European cars - and here specifically the BMC colour code – you simply need to check a few specific areas of the bodywork, such as the engine compartment or the door openings. We’ll explain in more detail in the following paragraphs.

If you're unsure which product page to choose - 1K basecoat or  Polyurethane 2K paint:

• Choose 1K basecoat if your shade appears pearlescent or metallic.
• Choose 2K paint if your shade does not contain any pearl or aluminium.

To order the manufacturer's paint, simply choose a quantity of products, or select the 400ml aerosol format. To estimate your paint needs, you only need to consider the coverage rate. One litre of paint covers between 8 and 10 m² in a single coat. As you'll be applying two coats,  the final yield is 4 to 5 m² per litre.

Whatever the BMC colour code, please note that varnishing is essential. Therefore, the paintwork is applied in two stages : first the original BMC paint, followed by a professional bodywork topcoat. Single-stage painting - meaning using a 2K paint, is only suitable for vintage colours, i.e. plain solid colours, which are now increasingly rare.

Do you need a primer before applying your BMC paint ?
Yes, if your existing base is scratched, and especially if you've used filler to repair dents. In this case, it is absolutely essential to apply a filling primer step, then carefully sand using 400 or 500 grit abrasive paper.
We do not recommand using coarser grits, as they would reduce adhesion between coats.
No, a primer is not necessary if the basecoat is in good condition. Generally, when repainting a part of a vehicle, it's due ti impact or scratches. In most cases, applying a primer is necessary to ensure a perfectly even surface.
A primer surfacer alone will not be sufficient for deep - putty must be used for any scratch deeper than 0.3 mm.

History of the BMC manufacturer

BMC is a large yet rrelatively little-known car manufacturer from the United Kingdom, founded in 1952. At the time, BMC was the largest English car manufacturer, responsible for 39% of global car production. Compared to other car manufacturers founded at the end of the 19th century, BMC was a more recent arrival. It did not experience the two World Wars and began directly with car production, without passing through the usual steps of manufacturing bicycles, tricycles, buses or  metal parts. As such, it did not suffer from wartime requisitions of its factories.
During its existence, the BMC group was closely associated with manufacturers such as Austin, MG, and later Jaguar. In 1958, the Italian designer Farina was hired to redefine the brand's vehicle lines and style. This talented stylish was behind was behind the first mass-produced hatchback, as well as the iconic design of the mini Austin in 1963. In 1966, BMC changed its name to BMH (British Motor Holding).

Where to find the colour code of your BMC car ?

For BMC brand vehicles, the colour code plate (vinplate) can be found in three possible locations :

- Inside the engine compartment.
- Inside the left front door.(driver's side)
- Inside the left rear door.(driver's side)
The colour code always consists of three or four alphanumeric characters (letters or numbers).
