In the same way that you use a colour chart with a code to paint a bathroom wall, there are the colour codes of Italian motorcycles ; precisely, the colour codes of the manufacturer Cagiva, to classify, organise and list the different colours of motorcycle manufacturers, especially for what interests you in this category dedicated to the Cagiva brand.
Unlike the automotive world, it is often much more difficult to know your Cagiva colour code. Indeed, this Cagiva paint reference is rarely or even never indicated on the bodywork, or even on the registration document of the motorcycle. Don't worry, we'll show you some techniques for finding this code a little further on.
You have your Cagiva motorcycle colour code and you need to do a paint job, either completely or partially, on a mudguard, tank, etc. We are able to mix most Cagiva codes for you, thanks to our original manufacturer's colour software.
To paint motorcycle parts, it is imperative to dismantle these fairing parts. You cannot spray paint or otherwise paint a motorcycle without dismantling it. The part must be hung or positioned in such a way that it can be painted from all angles and, if possible, also from below.
You must provide (if you work at home and not in a professional booth) a clean, dust-free painting area with sufficient air circulation to evacuate paint fumes.
You will be able, if you take care of the work and are diligent, to achieve a job equal to that of professionals, whether you paint with an aerosol or a paint gun.
To capture ambient dust, which can only be a problem for the final phase of the Topcoat, there is a trick : with a jet of water, spray the surrounding walls and floors, this will catch all the dust that flies during your work.
The Cagiva brand motorcycle colour codes
Today, in professional bodywork, water-based paints are used to paint motorcycles and even cars. This stems from certain European standards which have made it possible to reduce the level of solvents emitted by professionals into the atmosphere.
As a private individual, for decorative work, or even renovations of old vehicles, you have the right to use a solvent-based paint.
For manufacturer colours, we only manufacture solvent-based paints. These have many advantages over water-based paint. In addition to the ease of application, the drying speed, the ease of being worked and sanded, it is above all the durability over time that is much higher. Because all professionals know it well : water-based paint ages badly with time, temperature and sunlight. Detachments or discolouration are frequently observed.
For Cagiva manufacturer tints, we produce the colour codes in aerosol or can format (for those who have a spray gun).
Our Cagiva paints are delivered already diluted for the small 250 ml and 500 ml cans, while they are delivered pure for the 1L kits. The 1L format is called a kit because it includes 2 products : pure paint and its thinner, which must be mixed with approximately 100 parts of paint to 50 to 70 parts of thinner.
The painting done according to the Cagiva colour code is carried out with maximum rigour and precision by a professional colourist, who uses a formula derived from the original colour match.
The history of the manufacturer Cagiva
Cagiva is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer, founded in 1950. Its founder, Giovanni Castiglioni, specialised in the manufacture of small metal parts for industry.
It was only in 1978 that he fully launched into the production of motorcycles. The name of his brand takes the first 2 letters of his first name, his surname, and his city of origin : VARESE.
As early as 1979, production reached a record level of 40,000 motorcycles a year ! Most engines and displacements of the time ranged between 125 and 350 cubic centimetres.
Cagiva worked with its competitors, both in the United States and on its own territory in Italy, in particular with Ducati, for which it was a supplier of certain engine parts.
Cagiva even bought Ducati in 1985. It continued this policy of expansion by acquiring other European brands.
The Cagiva brand is well known in the world of racing and in particular in the Paris-Dakar race, which it has won on many occasions. Cagiva is also globally recognised in the world of speed racing.
Where to find the colour code of your Cagiva motorcycle ?
As with all motorcycles, the reference of a manufacturer's colour is generally difficult to know.
It would have been nice if the motorcycle manufacturers had agreed to indicate the colour code of the motorcycle somewhere on the frame or the fairing. But they decided otherwise.
Do not look on the documents of the motorcycle either, in particular the registration document, because this information is also missing there.
The only way to know for sure what manufacturer’s colour your bike has is to get the bike's original booklet, or contact a dealer and ask them to provide you with this valuable information. It is not certain that your dealer can help you, as he himself may have difficulty carrying out this search.
There is a lot of information shared on the forums, because the problem of finding the colour code is also shared by other bikers. On the specialised Cagiva brand forums, users share the results of their research.
As for us, we have a complete database of colour codes and formulas. However, we cannot know which code corresponds to your fairing. One paint can be used on different motorcycles, different models and different years. There are hundreds of similar shades.
The emblematic colours of Cagiva motorcycles
There are different structures for the Cagiva brand colour codes : some start with the letters CA, while others start with the letters CAG. There are even other types of codes that are different again and consist only of numbers.
