StardustColors is a specialist manufacturer of paints for motorcycles and can reproduce all the colour codes of Italian motorcycles, including the Ducati colour codes—or almost all of them... Every year, new shades are released and must be matched. There are also some very old colours for which it is difficult to find model samples. Each Ducati paint we offer is perfectly accurate and faithful to the original manufacturer’s colour.
The paints are available in one-component or two-component versions.
This is quite exceptional, as the motorcycle paint industry generally only uses 1K basecoats. However, some Ducati solid red shades can be formulated by us in a gloss lacquer version.
All Ducati colour codes we provide are solvent-based paints. These formulas have many advantages over modern water-based paints, which are more temperamental, less durable, and harder to apply.
We offer paint in can format for those using a spray gun, and we also fill spray paint aerosols on demand.
On our online shop, you can place your order in just a few minutes: after choosing the quantity and packaging you need, simply complete your order. You can then send us your paint reference by email.
Our team of colourists prepares your colour quickly and ships it within 24 hours. If there is any issue or need for additional information, our colourist will contact you.
Ducati motorcycle colour codes
We work with a digital colourimetry system that is regularly updated, thanks to our colour laboratory located in Italy. We use advanced technology that enables us to achieve exact shades. Each formula is mixed to the hundredth of a gram.
Our database contains over a hundred manufacturer codes for the Ducati brand.
These are mostly two-layer paints. This means a paint system applied in two stages: first the colour, then the clearcoat. The paint provides the colour, and the clearcoat delivers protection and gloss.
Some Ducati shades are three-layer colour codes. In addition to the usual two layers of paint and clearcoat, a specific undercoat is applied, known as the first coat. This system involves superimposing two paints—usually an opaque base followed by a transparent and/or pearlescent coat—creating superior visual effects.
If your Ducati colour code is a three-coat, you will need to order a second paint in addition to the colour and clearcoat.
Do you need a primer under your Ducati paint?
Yes, in some cases. Again, our colourist will contact you if a primer with a specific grey value is required.
In many situations, the paint can be applied directly to your previously sanded base (with 500-grit paper), but applying a primer will provide a uniform and consistent background.
If your Ducati motorcycle fairing includes stickers or has deep scratches, more extensive surface preparation will be necessary. This involves removing the decals and applying a filling primer to perfectly level the surface before painting.
The history of the manufacturer DUCATI
Ducati is one of the most iconic brands in the motorcycle world. This Italian manufacturer is based near Bologna.
The story began in 1926, when Antonio Ducati, supported by his three sons, founded a technology and science company, developing many innovative patents.
They built factories and continued their work even during World War II, despite the American bombings. Their facilities were completely destroyed in 1944 during a joint Allied raid.
Such was the creative drive of the Ducati team that production resumed without delay, particularly with the invention of a mini-engine that could be mounted on bicycles.
This marked the beginning of Ducati’s motorcycle production. These first engine-equipped bicycles were called "Cucciolos" and could reach speeds of 65 km/h. Nearly 200,000 units were sold from 1950 onward.
By the 1960s, Ducati had already become a pioneer in motorcycle innovation, producing some of the fastest racing bikes in the world with 250cc engines.
This era marked the beginning of a partnership with their competitor and friend Cagiva, and the rise of road racing. With their high-performance engines—characterised by four-stroke V-twin engines—Ducati earned a worldwide reputation.
Today, Ducati is owned by Lamborghini, which is itself owned by Audi, a brand of the Volkswagen Group.
Where to find the colour code of your DUCATI motorcycle ?
You won’t find your Ducati colour code on the tank or any part of the bike—not even hidden somewhere. Nor will it appear on the registration documents; there’s no mention of the Ducati colour code or name.
Some specialist Ducati sellers and dealers may be able to help, particularly for newer bikes produced after the year 2000.
For models produced before 2000, more in-depth research is needed. Thankfully, this is made easier thanks to global online forums dedicated to Ducati enthusiasts.
Our job as colourists is limited to producing colours from known formulas. In most cases, we cannot help you identify your code, as our databases contain many similar references, making it impossible to determine which matches your specific model.
The iconic colours of Ducati motorcycles
You could say red is Ducati’s signature colour.
But don’t assume it’s that simple—there are several Ducati reds.
There are opaque reds (known as “solid” colours), as well as more modern reds with pearlescent and metallic effects.
Some Ducati reds require a three-coat system (first coat + paint + clearcoat), such as the example with code 306.
Generally, Ducati colour codes are made up of numbers (between 3 and 5 digits). Here are a few non-exhaustive examples from the Ducati red database:
0007 ROUGE DUCATI MOTORCYCLES 2008 -
2B ROSSO MONSTER 749 999 DUCATI MOTORCYCLES 1999 -
