Although the French groups Citroën and Peugeot merged a few years ago, the lists including the colour codes of French cars - and in this case, Citroën colour codes - have remained quite distinct from those of its partner company the Lion Brand.
Citroën is one of the oldest and most famous car manufacturers in the world. Since its creation, no fewer than 300 Citroën colour codes have been created over 120 years of automobile activity and innovation.
Today, the colour codes of the Citroën brand are among the best known in the world of paint manufacturing. Indeed, no manufacturer provides their formulas to independent paint preparers, and Citroën only sells its paints through its own facilities and dealerships.
All independent paint brands must research and match colours themselves by various means, using specialised equipment or manual techniques - a process known as "matching".
Each paint is carefully analysed and reproduced to form databases, which paint preparers consult when touching up damaged vehicles.
Every paint shade has a precise reference. With hundreds of brands worldwide - and countless models and colours - a system for classifying bodywork colours was established nearly 70 years ago. This system is universally respected by all automotive professionals.
The purpose of creating a paint reference is to prevent errors. Since the same reference could occasionally appear across different manufacturers, a second verification element was introduced : the colour name.
Thus, each Citroën vehicle has both a Citroën colour code and a Citroën colour name, ensuring perfect accuracy for painters and preparers.
Whether you are an individual or a professional, you can find the Citroën colour code simply by inspecting specific areas of the car body - for example: inside the doors, inside the bonnet, or inside the boot.
Typically, you will find a small metal plate displaying several codes, among which you will identify the Citroën colour code, composed of letters and numbers, usually limited to 4 or 5 characters maximum. The colour name is not shown on these plates. To locate the exact positions, please refer to the next paragraph.
Founded in 1919 - more than 20 years after the first Ford and Renault cars - Citroën distinguished itself through a passion for avant-garde technology, whether in comfort, design and engineering.
André Citroën, the company's founder, showed great ambition. At just 23 years old, he invested his entire family fortune into a mechanical manufacturing business. Gifted for business, Citroën partnered with the French government during World War I to manufacture artillery shells. His first car factory was established in 1922.
Through multiple partnerships and a constant drive to improve, Citroën quickly met with success - despite fierce competition that drove all manufacturers of the time to innovate.
In 1976, Citroën was purchased by Peugeot.
For CITROËN vehicles, the VIN plate displaying the colour code can be found in three possible locations.
- Under the bonnet
- Inside the passenger or driver's door
- Near the fuse box

The Citroën colour code is always made up of letters and/or numbers.
In this category, we offer Citroën paint either on its own (in packaging from 250ml to 5L, or aerosol format), or as part of a complete kit including primer, basecoat and clearcoat.
Citroën has always been a major innovator in the field of automotive design. The quality and care taken in colour selection is clearly visible on Citroën bodywork.
Today, most shades are metallic or pearlescent. Like most manufacturers, Citroën has standardised its palette to meet global trends.
