Description

Stardust offers a range of colourless and transparent, liquid, thick, glossy and matt acrylic binders specially designed for artists and decorators.

The binder is also known as the medium. It is the paint's fixing element, making it possible to produce paints with pigments, which it protects, holds together and attaches to the support. It gives substance to the paint, and provides gloss or a matt effect after drying.

Use :

Binders are used to mix pigments, pigment pastes, inks, flakes, etc. They can be used to protect works of art, to thin water-based paints, to mix pigments, pearls or flakes, etc.

When used undiluted, it can be used as a clearcoat or protective coat.

Composition :

An acrylic binder is made from acrylic polymer resin (styrene-acrylic copolymer emulsion). On this page we only present acrylic binders in the aqueous phase, i.e. water-based binders.

Offers and different types of acrylic binders :

Matt binder 8038 : Satin matt effect, high viscosity and thickness, easy to use

Gloss Binder 8010 : High gloss, high viscosity and thickness, easy to use

Gloss Gel Binder 8009 : Thixotropic, thick, economical gloss binder,

Premium Matt Acrylic Binder 8092 : Creamy, thixotropic binder, super-matte, rich, excellent filler retention.

Premium gloss acrylic binder 8095 : Creamy, thixotropic binder, high gloss, rich, excellent filler retention.

Premium Ultra Matt Liquid Binder 8314 : Low viscosity, high strength, 2° gloss, sprayable.

Appearance and odours :

The appearance of the binders may be white when wet, but transparency is obtained after the binder has dried.

They have a pleasant odour. They are solvent-free and pleasant to use.

Substrates :

wood, cardboard, canvas, all primed substrates

Resistance :

After drying, our binders form a thick, hard, glossy or matt film.

Excellent surface and colour protection, perfect water and rub resistance, non-yellowing, UV resistant, suitable for outdoor use.

Dilution, mixing and compatibility :

Dilute with water up to a maximum of 15%. Excessive dilution may affect the adhesion, drying and resistance properties of the binder.

Mixing with pigments is easy. The binder is compatible with most acrylic paints

To colour binders, we offer Hydro colour pigment pastes as well as Hydro transparent and concentrated inks

Specifications :

Excellent pigment wetting capacity

Excellent flexibility

High transparency

rub resistance

Fast drying

Cleaning :

After use and before drying, tools can be cleaned with hot water, with or without soap.

Coverage :

10m² / Litre per coat

pH : 8-9

Film-forming or non-film-forming :

These technical properties are specific to each of the many existing acrylic resins. When the binder dries, it forms a coating : this coating can be said to be film-forming when it creates a film or soupy film, and when this coating can be reduced to powder by crushing, then it is non-film-forming.

Thickness, thixotropy and dry matter content :

We can differentiate between the viscosity properties of binders. Thick binders flow very little and withstand pigment filling well. Creamy, thixotropic binders hold their shape without spreading or self-smoothing, and are very good at keeping fillers in suspension without allowing pigments to settle.

Storage :

Keep cans tightly closed, avoid exposure to heat or frost. Use within 6 to 12 months if possible, and store between 10 and 30°C.
