THE INDISPENSABLE

Air supply for painting

Whether you are a body painter with 20 years of experience in car paint application methods, or decide to try your hand at spray painting, you want a supply optimum compressed air for a perfect finish. Whether it's a car, a motorcycle, a gate, or a door, we aim for flawless work and a beautiful shine.

Did you know that even with careful preparation, a simple fault in the adjustment or operation of the air supply can result in a non-shiny or "orange peel" final appearance ?

Paint application with compressed air

Take the time to browse through these very practical information pages on installing the correct compressor/filter/gun system, which will guide you and teach you all the things you need to know.

Today in the field of bodywork, we use almost more than spray guns called HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure) :
These consume a large volume of air during spraying. Therefore, it is important that the air compressor is able to deliver a certain airflow :
If the supply of compressed air for paint application drops, due to an unsuitable filter, then we get a mixing problem (paint / air) and imperfect results in terms of both color and shine.

The air compressor

It is composed of an engine and a tank, generally from 20 to 500 liters to store the air under pressure. The air compressor usually ramps up to 8 bar and pauses with a safety mechanism. It restarts when the pressure drops below 4.5 bars.

Air filters

It is essential equipment for cleaning the air by capturing grease, water and microscopic dirt in the process. Air filters are varied, in size, type and location, at the outlet of the compressor or at the inlet of the gun or the cabin.

It is recommended that the hoses for compressed air be very flexible to work easily and it is recommended not to exceed 10 meters in length because these hoses are too long and can cause a drop in pressure on arrival.

Pneumatic fittings and accessories

Practical for connecting and disconnecting in a "clip" the guns and hoses on the compressor, pneumatic fittings and accessories come in various sizes (internal diameter), but in bodywork, ¼ inches are generally used.

Air regulators

Do not confuse air regulators with filters. Often there are filters with regulators. Also not to be confused with the manometer which is used to measure pressure and flow.

Mini air compressors

Mini air compressors are more reserved for airbrush painting work and drawing. They have the advantage of being easily transportable and above all of being silent, in order to be able to work indoors, in an apartment for example. They include a tank from 0.5 to 10 L, and sometimes none !
