How to give color to your epoxy resin with a dye?How to tint your epoxy resins !

If you do not want to keep a colorless appearance, or if you want to give a solid appearance to the cast resin, which epoxy resin colorant to use ? Know that there are two ways to give color to your epoxy resin : the first is to opacify it with an epoxy resin pigment, opaque shades, the second is to color it while keeping the transparency.

What is an opaque tint ? It is often a thick and concentrated liquid, based on pigments, whose purpose is to tint a paint, resin or other. They are called solid colors, because they block the passage of light, even in very low thickness
On the other hand, a transparent dye dissolves completely and allows a perfect passage of light, like a syrup in the water, or like the colors of stained glass.

Give color to your epoxy resins !

First of all, make sure you find compatible products. Then, study the data sheets a minimum to determine the mixing ratio. Always very concentrated, the colors are added in small percentages, especially if the pour or the layer is thick. It is wise to dose slowly and put on the concentrated tint before pouring the hardener, so as not to be rushed by the hardening phenomenon.

Depending on your project, you will use transparent dyes (Candy Concentrated Ink) or opaque tints to give color to your epoxy resin. Tinting epoxy resins is done only by eye, or by weight with a precision scale. We advise to add the minimum of colorants and to always keep the exact ratio resin / hardener.

Adding clear epoxy resin colorant is done drop by drop by stirring the epoxy resin at the same time. The more ink you put, the darker and more opaque the color will be. We must also take into account the final thickness, because the thicker the resin casting, the darker the effect.

How to give color to your epoxy resin with a dye?Exotic color combinations

Of course, all dyes are miscible with each other. You can even add pigments, pearls and glitter, with dyes, which give very attractive visual effects.
You just have to avoid mixing opaque pigments with transparent pigments, or pearls, because they block completely the passage of light and literally "drowns out" all other pigments.

Color the resin with fluorescent

Neon is not luminous like phosphorescent. Find our article on phosphorescent resin below ! Fluorescent can be used in small quantities to give a bright and "flashy" color. However, do not attempt to mix the powders, as this is impossible with epoxy resin. Use semi-liquid fluorescent pigment dispersions instead.
