Chameleon paint kit for bicycles in HYDRO formula
Odourless / solvent-free / water-based
Dilution and cleaning with water
Contains:
○ HYDRO black base
○ HYDRO chameleon
○ Solvent-based UHS varnish kit (with hardener and thinner)
The Hydro Chameleon Bike Kit contains all the products needed for the three stages of the process, from the base coat to the top coat, in a professional HYDRO version without solvents*.
Chameleon paint is so named because of its ability to change appearance, particularly colour, depending on the angle of observation. It can thus display a "colour journey" ranging from 2 colours to up to 8 colours for certain references.
Application with a paint spray gun
Chameleon paint is not particularly difficult to apply. Application is simple: a few very thin coats on a black base, and the chameleon colour appears.
There are two families of chameleon paints: Classic (17 colours) and Extreme (24 high-performance shades).
There is also a standard type of chameleon paint (1) and a type of "transparent" chameleon paint (2).
(1): Application on a black background.
(2): Application on a black background and possibly on other background colours to create original compositions and effects.

New professional HYDRO formula – water-based chameleon paint
Stardust now offers a complete chameleon paint kit for bicycles, in a solvent-free version: These Hydro chameleon paints are professional-quality water-based products that comply with policies to reduce emissions of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). By using Hydro paints, you are helping to protect the environment.
►The visual effect, UV resistance, durability, coverage and dry weight are identical to those of solvent-based paints.
♦ The drying time (evaporation) of hydro bases is slightly slower than that of traditional solvent bases.

Details of the Hydro kit
250 ml Hydro black base*: (ready to use)
Chameleon base 250 ml: (ready to use)
UHS mini 825 ml varnish kit (contains 500 ml varnish + 175 ml hardener + 150 ml thinner)
Preparing the bike frame before painting
Stripping off the old paint is not recommended: light sanding with P500 sandpaper is sufficient and necessary to ensure good adhesion and durability of the paint. If the surface is not in good condition, then filler or primer should be applied to smooth the surface.
Special use of Hydro chameleon paint:
1 - Apply two thin coats of black base coat* to the painted and sanded surface using P400 sandpaper. Allow 10 minutes*** at room temperature (20°C) between coats.
Spray gun 1.0–1.4 mm / 3 bar
2 - Apply Hydro chameleon paint in several very thin coats until the background is covered, but no more. Allow 10 minutes** at room temperature (20°C) between each coat.
Spray gun 1.0 – 1.4 mm / 3 bar
○ Dilution is possible at 5 or 10% with our S6 thinner
○ Hardening is possible with our H6 hardener (hardening and superior adhesion)
○ Clean tools with water
3 – Application of UHS varnish (100:30 mixture + 5-15% dilution)**
Hydro chameleon paint can be varnished once it is "touch dry". This can take a minimum of 30 minutes at an ambient temperature of 20°C, and up to 24 hours. Beyond this, it is recommended to sand lightly with P500 before varnishing. The drying time must be significantly extended in cold temperatures.
Apply two coats of varnish 10 minutes apart at 20°C. Dry for 24 hours.
Dry for 24 hours before use.
*Only the paints are "Hydro"; the varnish is still a two-component solvent-based polyurethane.
** Extend drying times in case of low temperatures. Recoating can be done without sanding for up to 24 hours without any problems.
