OPAL paint kit for bikes - STARDUST BIKE

The Opalescent effect is a unique creation of Stardust and a major innovation in terms of special effects in the world of paints.

The Opal effect is a pearly effect of white color, creating variable colored reflections depending on the viewing angle. The Opal effect is particularly reminiscent of the mother-of-pearl forming the inside of shells.

This multi-colored interferential pearlescent effect is particularly well suited for painting a bike frame because the tubular shapes of the fork, frame and even the rims allow the multi-colored reflections to vary.

use a paint gun, nozzle 1 mm to 1.5 mm

solvent-based paints.

Details of the complete kit contents

500ml White Primer GPH007

250 ml of Opal paint

800 ml bodywork varnish UHS 830 : varnish kit, hardener, thinner

Mixing and application instructions*

Step 1 ► Preparing the surface: sanding the existing paint or primer with P320 sandpaper

Step 2 ► Apply the GPH007 white base coat in successive layers until full coverage is achieved, then apply the opalescent paint within 10–15 minutes. 

Step 3 ► Apply the opalescent paint. Stir well before use. The paint is ready to use.

Apply 3 or 4 thin coats at 2–5-minute intervals

1.3 mm spray gun – 3 bar

Drying time: 15 minutes at 20°C

Avoid sanding: we recommend applying the varnish immediately after painting, after 15 minutes and before 30 minutes at the very latest.

Step 4 ► Mixing the varnish. 3 parts varnish + 1 part hardener. Dilution: 10%

Pot life: 30 minutes

Apply 2 glossy coats at 10-minute intervals

2 GPH007 white primer spray cans

2 Opal spray paint cans

2 two-component spray cans** of varnish

Application instructions

Same as the jar version. (Remember to give the spray can a good shake before use.)

* If you don't want to varnish immediately, then sand with our grey abrasive sponge after drying, before working, and before varnishing, without time constraint.

** a bi-component spray can contains a hardener that is triggered with a button. It is therefore a superior quality product in terms of resistance, but for single use only.

A 1% plasticiser additive can be incorporated to increase the coating’s flexibility.

Stardust Colors elasticising additive

This solution improves resistance to stone chips and reduces the occurrence of cracks or flaking, as seen on heavy goods vehicle bumpers.

The different types of OPAL paints :

The reflections vary with cool or warm tones; one reference can show 2 to 4 colors of reflections.

The pearls are extremely fine for the OPAL series, and of medium size for the high intensity OPAL QUASAR range.

Their appearance is invisible without direct light.

Additional information :

It is possible to change the background color, keeping of course very light tones, like gray, light blue, yellow.... The color effects will always be surprising and unique!
