Stardust pro airbrush paint with special effectsSpecial effect paints to be applied with an airbrush

This term special effect, borrowed from magic, has been applied to the world of automotive paint and quite logically also to the field of Stardust pro acrylic airbrush paints, a paint range fairly representative of all of these specialties . Unlike traditional paints, where almost no type of special effect exists, spray paints offer this possibility of creating surprising visual sensations. By their nature and composition, airbrush paints are very fluid and therefore allow the use of certain special components, which would not be usable otherwise, that is, with brushes, paintbrushes, rollers. A special effect paint cannot be a thick and viscous paint, in most cases, as is the case with paints found in the classic field of wall decoration, or facade paints, or even artistic oil or watercolor paints.
So-called special paints are actually paints that offer some sort of feedback to the environment, the ability to change, in ways illusory or real. To give an example of this and to realize that it is really possible for a paint to be somehow "alive", there is the case of thermochromic paint which, even when totally dry, has the capacity to change, that is to say to operate a movement at the molecular level and this gives a change of color, which is not at all an illusion, but which is real.
In our case , the color that reaches our gaze is a kind of illusion, which is changeable and variable, although the color is very real. This is the case of a chameleon paint which changes color by definition.
A number of other effects that are found with airbrush paints and which derive directly from the world of bodywork.

Airbrush paints with special effects

One of the best examples is paints that emit light. How is it possible that a painting, which has no electricity or power sources, and which has no light bulbs, can produce light ? Well, it is possible, and it's called phosphorescent paint. This is the magic of special effect paints to surprise the observer, creating surprising and never seen before surfaces.
In conclusion, all paints that are able to react or change, in reality or in appearance, are special paints. Even fluorescent paints are special, because in truth their very vivid color is produced by a reaction in the core of their pigment. Some other paints are called special because they give the impression, that is, the illusion of a deep or textured surface. These crystallized or marbled products were originally developed in the world of car body decoration, and they have been transcribed into a water-based version, to the delight of airbrush painters.
Most specialties or special effect paints can be transposed into an airbrush paint version, both in aqueous phase and in solvent phase. Water-based airbrush paints are always a bit slower to dry, compared to solvent-based airbrush paints. However, the end effect is similar, and of course the application is much more pleasant when there are no noxious odors.
Water-based formulas allow immense and unimaginable possibilities, for example in interior decoration, on walls or ceilings, on statues, in fact anywhere... Special effect airbrush paints are also a great commercial aid for the artist and the entrepreneur to add added value to its offerings and services. What could be more attractive and innovative than the great special colors, which most customers have never encountered elsewhere ?

Stardust Pro airbrush paint with special effectsChameleon airbrush paint

More and more, they are coming back into fashion and can be used in a variety of applications. The Chameleon airbrush paints are beautiful colors that offer a touch of originality with always this surprising effect of color change depending on the place from which you look at them.
They are very fluid paints and whose aspect liquid does not often or necessarily correspond to the applied and dry appearance: this is because the color produced by the paint is not dependent on the color of the pigment or the paint, because it is in fact produced by the light reflection. In addition, the paints are often transparent and applied on a black background. So don't be surprised if you use chameleon paint for the first time and see a whitish liquid in the bottle!

Fluorescent airbrush paint

The Stardust family of acrylics includes around fifteen fluorescent airbrush paints : these intense and ultra-visible colors are applied on a background that is always white because they are transparent. They do not run, do not crack and dry very quickly. Do you know that they send more light than they receive ?

These are colors that are particularly pleasing to the eye and could have achieved enormous success in general, if it were not for a certain weak point, which is their lack of resistance to UV light: this particularity prohibits permanent outdoor exposure to all objects painted with fluorescent paints, and airbrush paints, even if supposedly intended for bodywork, are no exception to this rule.

Metallic airbrush paint

Used more in the field of model making, model making, miniatures, as well as war games, metallic airbrush paints are not really intended for drawing, but rather for painting surfaces to create metallic effects.
The very wide choice of Stardust Pro metallic colors is obtained thanks to aluminum or pearl pigments.
The metallic colors were originally created to limit the natural metallic materials, which are the copper, gold and bronze or even aluminium... And to do this, micro metallic flakes are used. Most are based on aluminium, this very abundant metal on earth and very economical, while the other metals are often based on alloys and are naturally not what they claim to represent. Faced with natural oxidation problems with metallic pigments, these days mother-of-pearl pigments covered with metallic oxides perfectly imitate its metallic finishes without producing any oxidation phenomenon.

Phosphorescent airbrush paint

They are one of the more special effects that Stardust specializes in : phosphorescent airbrush paints are capable of emitting light and are thus visible in the dark for hours. They work thanks to pigments which act like batteries. They are completely harmless.
The differences that can be discovered between an airbrush paint and a traditional paint is above all a greater fluidity, but also a composition based on much finer pigments than in the phosphorescent paints that are usually used with a brush or spray gun.
These very liquid paints can present some difficulty in mixing because the pigments are very fine and very heavy, which produces rapid sedimentation when the paint is not in use. For this reason, it is always very important to shake the paints well before use.
