Various pneumatic guns for paintingApply the paint with a pneumatic gun

We often wonder which gun to choose when starting out in painting. There is a big price difference between Air Gun models and many brands, so here are some tips and clarifications on how to paint with a gun without breaking the bank.

Be aware that if you don't have the budget of the Queen of England, there's no point in investing in a top-of-the-range gun at 600 euros. We can very well be satisfied with an economic pistol. We can completely prime, paint a body color, and finally do the final step, the clearcoat, with a perfect result. The important thing is more the "technique and the cut of the hand", than the quality of the gun in truth.

Pneumatic guns for painting bodywork

High-end models have high-precision adjustment options, sometimes even with electronic dials. Above all, they ensure great robustness and a long service life. They are suitable for intensive use, and can easily be used for 10 years, if taken care of.

The "made in China" air guns are quite reliable and unbeatable in terms of value for money. The downside is that spare parts are rarely available and they have a fairly limited lifespan. They are suitable for moderate use.

They don't have cups on top. The supply of paint is therefore not done by "gravity" with the help of the weight of the paint.
Under the gun, there is sometimes a tank, in which a rod is immersed, which sucks the painting using airflow. So it's a suction gun. All old pistols were made like this 20 years ago.

Other special pistols

With other guns available from Stardust in the category "Paint guns" (Link at the bottom of the page), there is no reservoir below, but a hose, connected to a paint tank, sometimes located several meters away. The paint therefore arrives under pressure (pressure tank gun available from Stardust). The advantages : painting without having to refill a small 600ml bucket thanks to tanks containing up to 10 liters of product. And also, being able to paint with the gun in all positions, without fear of spilling the paint !
We won't talk about the weird two-nozzle guns, which are used more for chemical metallization than for body painting.
