THE INDISPENSABLE

Airbrush : painting and drawing on bodyworkDrawing on a car or motorcycle

Are you a painter ? Have you ever tried using an airbrush to decorate a helmet, hood or tank ? If so, you have surely understood that painting and drawing on bodywork with an airbrush is certainly not an easy technique, but how exciting and rewarding !

In fact, imagining, designing and painting a fresco on the parts and the sinuous shapes of a fairing, stimulates creativity to the maximum. It is an infinitely more motivating task than painting a piece of paper or a canvas, which we will plant on a wall... The drawing will come to life on the vehicle, circulate on the roads and attract everyone's attention. !

Drawing on bodywork with an airbrush

Decorating a motorcycle or other vehicle is done using airbrushes. Why not with a brush like all other artistic paints ?
It has been like this for more than 50 years, firstly because in this unique discipline, we aim for high realism results and splendid effects, to the height of the vehicle that serves as a support, the value of which is several thousand dollars ! And then, because we are looking for lasting results with products that are compatible with bodywork: we don't use watercolours, charcoal or oil paint !

The airbrush artist must know and master all aspects of painting and drawing on bodywork with an airbrush : in addition to knowing how to draw, having an artistic flair to design the project, he must have in-depth knowledge of the different body painting products and techniques. Depending on the size of what he paints – it goes from a helmet to a boat or a helicopter ! He will use precision airbrushes or paint guns.

Airbrush : painting and drawing on bodyworkSimilarities with other forms of drawing ?

Similarities for the painter with, instead of paper, canvas or canvas, a body part primed, painted and finely sanded with 800 grit. Instead of the fixative used in the pastel technique, protect your drawing with a transparent base coat or varnish, to avoid any accident that could ruin a few hours of work!

The similarities end there! The airbrush drawing is done freehand, with extreme precision, the needle a few millimeters from the support: this is the big difference with drawing techniques: with the airbrush, you never touch the support.
On the other hand, the gradient and hyper-realism effects are just incredible. With a little practice, we enjoy!
