Solvent-based acrylic resin binder, component of car paintAcrylic transparent mediums or bases for paints

Acrylics are a family of polymers that are also part of the composition of solvent-based car paints and are generally understood as "water-based paints". Many of the “matt base” or “PU finish” paints are however acrylics made from acrylic binders.

In this article, we will focus on acrylic binder, which is a kind of base colorless and transparent resin. It is today the most widely used acrylic type binder.

These products exist both in aqueous phase and in solvent phase.
There are hundreds of them which can differ in their quality, their appearance, their formula, their thickness, their viscosity, their solid content, their resistance, grip and uses…

Solvent-based acrylic resin binders

They are used in the field of artistic painting, for children and professionals, but also in the field of screen printing, textile or packaging inks, and even industry, and particularly the world automobile.

These are "base" liquid products that are used to make paints and that keep additives, pigments and fillers together. Made from dry resin, they are "wet" and dispersed with either a solvent or water.

Rare are the opaque binders (these are often building paint binders) that come preloaded with a pigment.

An acrylic binder has a whitish and sometimes slightly bluish color. Acrylic binders are resins that offer the best advantages, such as UV resistance, durability, high compatibility, low cost and the possibility of bi-component formulation.

This is a very special bodywork binder. Less rich in dry matter, less thick, it gives a finer dry final layer.

It is a single-component binder of the matt base type, exclusively used for metallic or pearlescent type paints: thanks to its finesse, it allows a perfectly "flat" placement of the glitter, which produces a smooth effect , mirror polished.

HS solvent-based acrylic binder

HS : for High Solid. This means that this binder is richer, stronger and thicker. It has a thickness at least 50% thicker than an MS binder.
You can mix colors and shades, but also neon, glitter, phosphorescent. It accepts the load better. You can mix the mother-of-pearl in it, but it will be less well positioned, loosely, in this thicker layer.
