Resin and epoxy paint, one of the components of car paintPaints and epoxy resins

Epoxy paints are made from a family of epoxy binders and resins known as epoxy. It is a group of polymers reactive to heat or to numerous curing reagents (polymerization) which enters into the composition of certain solvent-based car paints, and also in aqueous versions. During the reaction with catalysts, epoxy binders and resins undergo hardening.

Use :
These hard, transparent, heat and abrasion resistant materials have found many practical uses in coatings for metal (paints), electronics and electrical, brushes , decorative castings, structures, glues...

Curing of epoxy resins :
Whether for the use of glues or paints, the curing process uses either heat or a hardener: single-component epoxy resins show properties of very poor mechanical, chemical and thermal resistance.

Exothermic :
When epoxy resins harden, an exothermic reaction is created which is a more or less strong release of heat (up to 250°C) depending on the thickness.

Optimal hardening and "molecular network" must be done with sufficient temperature to achieve maximum hardness properties. The temperature of the exotherm is an important aspect to control, ensuring that the heat does not accumulate and can always be evacuated. This prevents yellowing, cracking...

The advantages of epoxy paints and resins

The systems of paints or resins based on epoxy polymers are known for their excellent performance and at the same time, for their low level of harmfulness.

Adhesion : epoxy-based binders and paints above all provide strong adhesion to many substrates.
In the field of paints and coatings, 2-component epoxy binders have been designed for paints in front of withstand harsh conditions on metal substrates

Due to their high resistance, epoxy coatings are often used in industrial and automotive applications, as they resist heat better than other paints.

Contraindication for outdoor use :
Epoxy resins and paints show a certain fragility to UVs and have a tendency to react by yellowing or degradation following prolonged exposure outdoors under the sun

Resin and epoxy paint, one of the components of car paintUse of epoxies in art

Some epoxy resins are used in the varnishing of furniture, surfboards or carbon fiber creations, castings, and other crystal resins are used to produce works of art with the techniques of casting and the river table.

Epoxy resin for stylish floors

Epoxy resins are also used for decorative floor coverings such as marble-effect floor resins, with the addition of colors and mother-of-pearl.

Powder coating

Powder coatings with baked on provide high hardness. These systems involve polyester epoxies and an electrical and chemical process, and require specialized equipment and a certain amount of energy. They produce extremely hard and corrosion resistant protections.
This technique is used for automotive or marine rims to prevent rust.
