the 3-step process

The unique composition of Stardust Bike metallic paints

Unlike most conventional paints, Stardust colors are composed solely of metallic pigments, and are not obtained by adding colors, tints or pigments. It is the metallic pigment that creates the color and reflection in an authentic way.

Characteristics of metallic spray paints

As their composition is different, their application is also different : this liquid paint contains micro particles of aluminum or mother of pearl and must be applied in very thin and successive coats, until they cover the base.

This base is very important : It must be of a homogeneous color, and imperatively black, with the exception of the white metallic paint which needs a white base.

The application :

The frame of the bicycle must be sanded.
Sanding does not mean "stripping".
Sanding simply allows the paint to adhere.

If the base is uneven, or if the base is bare (aluminum, carbon, steel) then it is necessary to apply in this case a specific primer adapted to the nature of the support

Otherwise we simply apply a Graphic base paint that will serve as a plain background

With the aerosol, make quick passes to apply 3 to 4 thin coats, so as to cover the black background.
Without waiting more than 20 minutes, apply the clearcoat.

Bike varnishing

It is imperative to apply a clearcoat with this type of paint, because they are 1K basecoats.

The clearcoat gives them both the resistance and also the aesthetic quality of shine or matte effect.

A clearcoat must be resistant, and for this reason it is not necessary to use single-component varnishes sold in large stores and to the general public. The Stardust Bike range offers you a professional two-component clearcoat in aerosol spray format

Metallic spray paint efficiency

400 ml = 300 ml Gas + 100 ml paint = 1sqm for one coat
2 aerosols sprays minimum are necessary for a bicycle frame

Why a black background ?

Except in the case of the metal white color which is actually a white mother of pearl, most metallic colors should be applied over a black background : black absorbs light and the metal particles reflect light, which helps the visibility and power of the metallic effect.
