More info

Fluorescent colors are well known and frequently used in the world of cycling but also in helmet painting and other sports equipment.

Stardust Spray Bike paint cans are professional quality paints originally designed for bodywork and dedicated especially to the customization of bikes.

A fluorescent bicycle frame paint is composed of special pigments that have the ability to send much more light and therefore color to the observer's eye than a normal paint. The amount of light emitted is greater than the amount of light received by the paint, this is a phenomenon of fluorescence.

The application :

The bike must be painted or primed in white beforehand.
This can be a primer specifically adapted to the materials of the bike frame or a white paint.

Applying a white base paint is possible on an already primed, painted or varnished bicycle frame. When the bike frame is stripped or raw, then a primer must be applied.

The Stardust Bike range offers a series of basic spray paints and also a series of special primers for aluminum, carbon or non-regular surfaces.

White base
Sanded with P400 or P500

A fluorescent paint is applied in four or five thin coats, applied in quick succession, as it is a very fast drying paint.

Varnishing

It is very important to varnish immediately after and on top of the fluorescent paint in order to seal it and "fix" it.

To apply adhesives, it must be done quickly during the drying period of the fluorescent paint, which lasts from five to fifteen minutes maximum. This is because fluorescent paint dries very quickly and has a very dry surface, which means that the clearcoat may not stick after just 15 minutes.

It is recommended to make masking or graphics on top of the clearcoat after it has dried completely and been sanded with 500 grit, after which it can be varnished again.

Varnishing is done in two coats spaced five to 10 minutes apart.

Choice of clearcoat :

The varnishing has a decorative effect that brings the shine or the mat effect and has of course also the protective role of the paint, both in terms of abrasion and color : fluorescent paints are much more fragile than other classic colors, because they burn in reaction with UV rays. There is no foolproof way to protect them. However, an anti-UV clearcoat applied with a maximum of coats will be the best thing to do.

Paint requirement

For a bicycle frame two to three chameleon sprays are needed.
