P520 White Epoxy Primer for Concrete Floors – High Adhesion for Epoxy and Photoluminescent Coatings

P520

P520 white epoxy primer is a professional-grade, high-adhesion undercoat designed for concrete floors.

Solvent-free, odourless and highly durable, it optimises the adhesion of epoxy coatings whilst enhancing the performance of photoluminescent and fluorescent paints thanks to its white finish.

Description

The essential professional primer for concrete floors

The P520 epoxy primer is a preparatory undercoat designed for concrete floors and mineral substrates requiring maximum adhesion prior to the application of a technical epoxy coating. Its three-component, solvent-free formulation with a high solids content creates a particularly durable bonding layer, whilst evening out the colour of the substrate thanks to its white finish.

Developed by StardustColors for environments subject to heavy traffic, the P520 primer is the first step in a range of professional coating systems, including PH2329 photoluminescent epoxy paints, FL2329 fluorescent paints and UV2329 invisible fluorescent paints.

Its white colour significantly improves the optical performance of the luminous topcoats by reflecting more light. This characteristic is essential for achieving maximum photoluminescent intensity with the phosphorescent paints applied on top.

A high-performance epoxy primer

P520 is a pigmented two-component epoxy paint (resin, hardener and pigment paste) that cures at room temperature. Its low viscosity allows it to be applied by roller, brush or airbrush.

With a solids content of over 95%, the primer forms a thick film with virtually no shrinkage. Unlike products with high solvent content, it gives off virtually no odour during application and offers excellent working comfort in enclosed spaces.

This formulation ensures excellent film cohesion as well as very strong adhesion to properly prepared substrates.

Excellent resistance for industrial environments

The P520 primer does more than just act as a bonding coat. It also provides genuine mechanical protection for the substrate.

Once cured, the film offers excellent resistance to:

  • heavy traffic,
  • wear and tear,
  • abrasion,
  • water,
  • oils,
  • hydrocarbons,
  • alcohols,
  • solvents,
  • common acids,
  • and tars.

Its thermal resistance reaches approximately 200°C, whilst its glass transition temperature is 41 ± 4°C, ensuring excellent stability in industrial applications.

Compatible with a wide range of substrates

P520 primer adheres perfectly to a wide range of properly prepared materials:

  • concrete
  • cement
  • mortar
  • wood
  • metal

For new concrete, a minimum curing time of 30 days is recommended before application.

Surfaces must be clean, dry, sound and free from laitance, dust, oil or old, non-adhering paint. Existing epoxy or polyurethane paints must be sanded down to ensure excellent adhesion.

On very dense or polished concrete, mechanical sanding or a suitable treatment is recommended to achieve sufficient porosity to promote adhesion.

The ideal primer for photoluminescent systems

The P520 white primer has been specially designed to optimise the performance of StardustColors luminescent paints.

It is used as the first coat in the following systems:

  • PH2329 Photoluminescent Epoxy
  • FL2329 Fluorescent
  • UV2329 Fluorescent Invisible Blacklight

The white colour reflects a much greater amount of light than bare concrete. This reflection significantly increases the effectiveness of the phosphorescent and fluorescent pigments applied as a top coat.

For this reason, StardustColors always recommends applying P520 before any photoluminescent paint.

Mixing by weight

Observe the following ratio:

•    3 parts of Component A

•    1 part of Component B

Dosage example:

1125 g of Component A + 375 g of Component B

Mix Components A and B thoroughly using a mechanical or manual stirrer until a perfectly homogeneous mixture is obtained.

After approximately 2 minutes, when the curing reaction begins (catalysis and a slight rise in temperature), add Component C at a ratio of 1.2 parts:

225 g of Component C

Mix again until completely homogeneous.

Then transfer the mixture to a paint tray, taking care not to scrape the sides or bottom of the container so as not to incorporate any insufficiently mixed product.

Simple and professional application

The primer is supplied as a pre-measured kit comprising:

  • Epoxy resin
  • Hardener
  • White pigment paste

The mixture must be prepared in strict accordance with the original proportions.

The pot life is approximately 40 minutes at 20°C. This time decreases as the temperature rises.

The product can be applied:

  • with an epoxy roller,
  • with a brush,
  • with an air spray gun (1.5 to 2.4 mm).

Airless application is not recommended.

Coverage and thickness

The average coverage is approximately:

200 g/m² per coat

One coat is usually sufficient.

A second coat may be applied if the substrate is particularly absorbent or if a perfectly even finish is required.

The average thickness achieved is approximately 200 microns.

Overcoating with StardustColors paints

The P520 primer is designed to be overcoated directly with the technical finishes in the range.

Overcoating is recommended:

  • after approximately 24 hours,
  • without sanding.

After more than 36 hours, light sanding is advised to ensure optimum adhesion before applying the finish.

Drying time

At 20°C:

  • Dust-free: approximately 6 hours
  • Touch-dry: 12 to 16 hours
  • Recoatable: 24 hours
  • Fully cured: 8 to 10 days.

Why choose the P520 primer?

The P520 epoxy primer is the ideal base for all StardustColors technical floor coating systems. It ensures long-lasting adhesion, enhances the optical performance of photoluminescent paints, effectively protects the substrate and offers excellent mechanical and chemical resistance.

Thanks to its solvent-free, odourless formulation with a high solids content, it perfectly meets the requirements of professionals in industry, public access buildings, warehouses, car parks and technical buildings seeking a very high-quality primer.
