How do you choose your Candy shade?

>>> It’s very simple: look at the Candy Colour Chart PDF, choose your Candy shade, and locate the Candy base colour on the vertical axis and the Candy colour on the horizontal axis. The combination of the two gives you the final Candy colour.

The Kit is delivered with the following products:

2 L of 1K basecoat to create an even background (Black or White depending on the shade)

3 L of Bright Aluminium Candy undercoat *(by default or any other pearl paint)

2 L Transparent Candy NANO base to clearcoat + 2L thinner (colour of your choice)

2 UHS topcoat kits x 1.33 L (hardener and thinner included)

Here is a summary of how the products are applied:
- Apply the ready-for-use black or white background paint
- Apply within 30 min the aluminium paint undercoat (or other metallic and pearlescent paints) ready to use
- Apply within 30 min a transparent coat of Candy (mixing: 1 part Candy base + 1 part thinner)
- Apply within 30 min the topcoat (mixing: 3 parts topcoat + 1 part hardener)

Some information about base coats

We recommend using a standard base coat such as BC1 or BC2, which are simple and effective. On this page, for the sake of simplicity, we offer seven metallic or pearlescent base coats: BC1 (Bright Aluminium – Medium), BC2 (Coarse Aluminium – Coarse), BC4 (Diamond White), BC11 (Fine Gold Pearl), BC24 (Panther Black Pearl), BC51 (Shimmering White Pearl) and BC60 (Micro Aluminium). Any other metallic base coat may be requested

►How to achieve a deep, dark Candy color?

There is an easy and economical technique for achieving a dark, deep shade. This involves applying the metallic undercoat at 50% coverage instead of 100% coverage. Therefore, the aluminum undercoat should be applied with one or two thin coats instead of applying the aluminum paint until the black basecoat is completely covered. This allows you to achieve a very deep, dark color with just two or three coats of Candy.

Some information on the Candy :  

Candy technique is a special system that consists of two different coats, which when combined together, create deep and luminous hues:

• The undercoat, which needs to be metallic, pearl or glitter, and that will be used as a neutral background, opaque and light-reflective
• The candy (clearcoat or 1K basecoat), completely clear and to which has been added transparent automotive shades

The final aspect obtained will depend on the number of Candy coats applied: the more Candy passes, the darker the final hue will be.

To succeed with a Candy, the painter must be experienced and work with regularity.

What is the difference between the Candy base and Candy gloss finishes? Which should I choose?

We recommend choosing the Candy matt base finish, as this allows for the application of thinner, faster-drying coats – in greater numbers – resulting in a more uniform finish, free from marbling or variations in shade, and, above all, with no risk of running. Professional painters naturally prefer to paint a car using a matt base paint.

As for the gloss version, it saves you a step, as there’s no need to go over the surface a second time.

- UV resistance

Candy NANO:

Our new range of complete car Candy kits features Candy NANO (the new, fully UV-resistant Candy). Stardust is the only company to offer fully UV-resistant Candy.

The classic Candy colours are still available and can be requested as part of the kit by simply sending a message after placing your order. They are not fully UV-resistant and offer slightly less protection than Candy NANO.

Candy Classic:

UV resistance ratings vary depending on the shade, on a scale of up to 8 (Blue Wool Scale – download the UV resistance table (PDF) at the bottom of the page)

Additional protection: Our Candy® Classic colours offer darker, deeper shades and have good UV resistance, approaching that of transparent automotive paints. However, they are not guaranteed to be completely UV-resistant, and should be protected with as many coats of varnish as possible; where possible, our anti-UV additive should also be added: whilst this additive does not guarantee unlimited protection of colours from the sun, it does help to enhance their resistance (see the ‘Additives’ section).

Liability: Our company provides sufficient information on the natural characteristics and relative fragility of ‘Candy’ Classic colours compared with ‘classic colours’, and accepts no liability for any damage to ‘Candy’ Classic paint systems caused by sunlight or high temperatures of any kind.
