What is a matt black finish?
The best painting system for achieving a matt black finish involves using an ultra-pure deep black paint topped with a matt clear coat.
Matt clear coats have a microscopically textured surface that traps light, minimising light bounce or reflection.
Generally speaking, the composition and microscopic surface structure of matt varnishes naturally result in surfaces that are less durable than glossy varnishes; matt varnishes are therefore more susceptible to scratches and marks.
A good matt varnish must strike the optimal balance between durability and the matt effect; furthermore, it should contain as few matting fillers as possible, as these can create a whitish effect, which naturally affects the depth of the black colour.
Specular gloss is a measure used in physics and optics, expressed in degrees (°). A very high-gloss clear coat can reach 95°, whilst the mattest paint or clear coat in the world can be measured at around 0.1° (at this level, there is no mechanical resistance, which makes finishes of this type extremely fragile and unsuitable for automotive use)

Application instructions
1/ Preparation
The substrate must be ready for painting, i.e. prepared in accordance with best practice by cleaning, dust removal and sanding with P500 grit paper
the surface must be degreased and free from silicone or other contaminants
2/ The black paint
The paint, once thoroughly stirred or shaken, must be sprayed in two coats, with an interval of five to a maximum of 30 minutes between coats. (Spray gun: 1.3–1.4 mm / 3 bar)
The black paint must be covered before it has dried to the touch (30 minutes at 20°C) to ensure adhesion with the varnish. The varnish mixture must therefore be prepared immediately after application so that it can be applied quickly.
3 / Apply the matt varnish in two medium coats, spaced 10 minutes apart.
It is not recommended to apply either thin or excessively thick coats, as this may cause white haze or ‘powdery’ defects in the former case, or excessive gloss in the latter.
4/ Drying and commissioning: 24 hours at 20°C
Product (hardener) containing isocyanates with a free monomer content of less than 0.1%. (REACH Regulation (EU) 2020/1149)
