Why are Suzuki paints not available in a '2K paint' version ?
> Suzuki paints are manufactured in a 1K basecoat version (very thin, quick drying) only, because paints containing pearl or metal particles would not give good results when applied in a thick and slow drying 2K polyurethane paint.

The famous brand of the Japanese manufacturer has developed more than a hundred motorcycle colours in recent decades : The recent Suzuki colours are more and more elaborated to stand out from the competition. New pearl effects thanks to Xirallic® powders but also « candy » are used to make Suzuki paints always more eye-catching.

Today, and in the motorcycle industry, it is not easy to know the references (colour code) of Suzuki paints.

How much paint do I need to paint my motorcycle ?

The covering power is expressed in m²/L
- The pure litre in 2 passes : 5 to 6 m².
- The litre diluted in 2 passes : 3-4 m²
- 1 aerosol spray 400 ml = 0.5 m² max
Count 1 m² for a motorcycle with the minimum of fairing
and up to 2.5 m² for motorcycles with many fairings

Our motorcycle colors are delivered in « 1K (2-coat) basecoat ».
2-coat* : means that the painting is done in 2 steps, with the paint, then the clearcoat. As opposed to 2K paint which is a paint with hardener, brilliant and resistant.
Therefore, each paint must be varnished in order to obtain the shine but also the resistance ( fuel, sun, water, projections..)

Some 3-coat colours require a specific additional undercoat*: if your colour code requires this additional undercoat, our technician will contact you in order to propose the first coat colour.

MIXING Suzuki 1K basecoat paint :

Our paint kits are supplied in pure version.
In order to give it the necessary viscosity, add 70% of V1 thinner
the 250 and 500 ml cans are already diluted.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS in full detail :

Step 1/ Preparing the base, according to the professional standards of body painting
In most cases, the paint is applied on top of an old paint or clearcoat, without necessarily applying a primer* :

To ensure paint adhesion, sand lightly but carefully with 800 sandpaper and water. Rinse and dry.
Degrease (fingerprints, silicone, glue or grease) : with our degreaser, soak a wiping paper and clean the whole surface of the part. Immediately, with a dry wiping paper, wipe the residues of degreaser, without waiting for the evaporation ;
Just before painting, pick up the dust on the part with our sticky wiping pad, without pressing.
Paint

When should we apply a « primer » ?

On raw metal, it is mandatory to apply one of our anti-corrosion metal primers
If there are any excess thicknesses, defects, scratches, or stickers, sand as much as possible with 320 paper with water, remove the stickers, then apply our « filler » primer (see bottom of page) then sand with water finely. In case of light scratches, we can simply apply our Fast primer, which can be painted directly without sanding.
Often, the paint can be applied directly, regardless of the existing background color ; however, it is recommended, and mandatory for certain transparent 3-coat paints/pearl motorcycle paint/complex, modern shade, to apply a uniform background colour (white, gray, dark gray or black) : Check out our Stardust Fast primer at the bottom of the page. This primer is very thin, does not sand, and is covered directly with the paint.

Step 2/ the paint

The paint is applied with a spray gun (medium nozzle of 1 to 1.4 mm with a pressure of 2 to 3 bars) at a temperature of about 20°C

Start with a very thin adhesion veil then observe a waiting time of 2 minutes (this allows to improve the adhesion, and it also allows to see possible defects or reactions).
Then apply 2 coats with 5 minutes between each one (the interval time allows a minimum of drying and evaporation - it is lengthened by cold temperature and shortened by hot temperature).
For metallic motorcycle paints, it is then recommended to apply a light final veil, at 40 cm from the part, to « veil » and homogenize
The drying of 1K basecoat paint is very fast. It is very important to varnish immediately, without waiting more than half an hour, to avoid a defect of adhesion of the clearcoat on the 1K basecoat paint.
If you wait more than 30 minutes: you will have to recreate the adhesion by dry « removing » with a grey abrasive sponge.

Step 3 / Varnishing of the motorcycle :
You have 15 minutes to prepare your clearcoat mixture. It is important to varnish before thirty minutes in order to preserve the adhesion between the coats

Our advice for those who paint outside the booth :

Dismantle the motorcycle and lay the parts flat and sufficiently spaced
Before painting, make sure there is sufficient air circulation to prevent paint fumes from falling back onto the paint
Paint in dry and windless weather, without humidity (to keep the clearcoat shiny and dust-free)
Wet the floors and walls to avoid dusting
