UV-invisible fluorescent ink – Discreet marking and security under black light

UV invisible inks are specially formulated to remain completely transparent and undetectable in normal light, whilst revealing intense fluorescence when exposed to a black light or ultraviolet light source. They can therefore be used to create hidden markings, identification marks or decorations that are visible only under UV light. 

They are naturally suited to the following areas:

• document and product security,
• anti-counterfeiting,
• identification and traceability,
• discreet marking of objects,
• event decoration,
• special effects and artistic creations. 

Under normal lighting conditions, the ink does not alter the colour, gloss or appearance of the surface to which it is applied. The marking therefore remains virtually impossible to detect without suitable UV lighting. 

Strong fluorescence even at low thicknesses

Thanks to their high concentration of fluorescent compounds, these inks offer significant light emission with a very small amount of product. A single thin coat is usually sufficient to achieve a result that is visible under a UV lamp. 

The concentration of fluorescent agents is generally between 2 and 5 per cent, which provides an excellent balance between invisibility in daylight and luminosity under ultraviolet light. 

Available colours

The range is available in several fluorescent shades that are only visible under UV light:

• Turquoise blue 
• Deep blue 
• Purple 
• Pink 
• Red 
• Orange 
• Yellow 
• Green 
• Fluorescent white 

It is important to note that these names refer solely to the colour emitted under black light and not to the colour of the product in daylight, as it remains transparent or virtually invisible. 

Available formulations

Two binder technologies are available, depending on the application:

• an aqueous formulation for certain products, 
• and several solvent-based versions designed for substrates requiring enhanced adhesion or faster drying. 

The different inks can be mixed together to create customised shades or fluorescent effects. 

Recommended applications

These inks are particularly suitable for:

• security printing,
• industrial marking,
• rotogravure printing,
• invisible designs,
• black light shows and performances,
• immersive experiences or escape games. 

For certain specific applications such as screen printing, a higher-viscosity version can be produced to ensure better adhesion to the printing screen.
