Pearlised paint with colour-shifting effect

from black to colour

The Black Interference paint range includes special shades exclusively developed by StardustColours.

Similar to chameleon paints, they create a changing colour effect from black to coloured.

Without direct light (sun, lamp, streetlight), the Topcoated paint appears deep and glossy black. Under light and from certain angles, it reveals an intense pearlescent hue.

The pearl particles are extremely fine and contain no glitter. A glittered version is available on request.

Method of application
Apply on a pure black background sanded with P500

Use a 1.3–1.4 mm spray gun (3 bar pressure).

Apply four thin coats at short intervals.

Apply the Topcoat “wet-on-wet” within 30 minutes.

► Strengthen the protection of your paint by adding an anti-UV additive to the Topcoat.

Discover the concentrated anti-UV additive (dosage: 1.5% max in the Topcoat and 3% max in the paints).

Black Interference Paint – Hypershift Red to Black

Hypershift Red is the new benchmark of the Black Interference range, with a more intense, deeper, redder and darker colour transition.

Hypershift technology differs completely from the standard Black Interference range. It produces an exceptional effect, unique in its ability to display both luminous red and pure black.

This special-effect paint is completely UV-resistant.

Black-to-red Hypershift colours are available in two versions from Stardust:

HS1 – Hypershift Black to Red + Gold

HS3 – Hypershift Black to Red

The application method for Hypershift paints differs from regular Black Interference colours.

Red-to-black Hypershift paint should be applied in 3–4 thin coats, similar to pearlescent or chameleon paint. Heavy coats are not recommended.

Black Interference Paint User Guide:

Step 1 – Application of the black background
It can be either:
> Our "Black surfacer filler primer"   (also available in spray ) for bare and imperfect surfaces (see product at the bottom of the page)
or
> Our black 1K basecoat,  (also available in spray ), ideal for covering existing paints. (see product at the bottom of the page)
The black paint provides a deeper, more intense black effect.

Step 2 - Black Interference paint application

Shake the product well before use!

The paint is very fluid and must be applied in very thin passes.

Apply evenly and uniformly over each part of the bodywork.

Apply 3–4 thin coats.

Once dry, the surface becomes matt and the pearlescent effect is no longer visible — it reappears only during Topcoating, under direct light.

Step 3 - Topcoating
Within 30 minutes, apply a glossy automotive topcoat (See bottom of the page)

A wide range of Topcoats is available in can or spray

*tThe Hydro version requires 30–60 minutes of drying at 20°C. Drying can be accelerated in cold weather with hot air. Varnishing is possible within 24 hours without sanding. The Hydro version is compatible with all conventional automotive Topcoats.

Application steps:

The interval between each step (black base, Black Interference, and Topcoat) should be 10–30 minutes maximum (without sanding).

The product is also available as a complete kit for motorcycles or cars.

What are the differences between standard “Black Interference” colours and “Hypershift” colours?

Beyond the difference in price and formulation, there are notable variations in colour behaviour and application:

The Hypershift colour is a true chameleon shade, while standard colours resemble deep, dark Candy effects. Standard colours are created by light reflection on fine pearl pigments — the shade names are indicative and may differ slightly from the natural hue of the pearl.

Hypershift colours are applied in multiple layers, like pearlescent or chameleon paints. They are more vivid, more intense, and the colour change is more dramatic.
