Among the car paints for car parts, we offer a complete range of products for painting car frames.
The role of car frame paint, before being aesthetic, is above all to ensure adhesion and protection.
Here is our advice to help you understand the key aspects of renovating or painting a frame for the first time.
Whatever the type of car frame, the first step is to assess its condition and ask yourself the following questions:
– Is the car frame already painted or bare?
– Is the existing car paint on this frame solid and in good condition?
– If the metal is bare, what kind of metal is it?
These questions can help you save hours of stripping or sanding, as well as expensive sandblasting or grit blasting services — not to mention the labour of applying a new adhesion primer, only to often end up at the same starting point.
💡 If the car frame has already been primed in a factory or by a professional, it is totally unnecessary to strip and redo the work.
Stripping is only recommended if the paint is poor quality, peeling, or if rust is developing beneath the paint.
Car paint for frame: protection against corrosion and oxidisation.
Identifying the type of metal :
You don’t use the same primer on ferrous metals as on aluminium — and this is very important.
Further down the page, we present the various primers available:
– the ultra high-performance all-metal primer, capable of withstanding the most extreme conditions
– and the two-component Epoxy 292 primer.
However, when painting a car frame, using such extreme primers is not essential.
Our basic iron and aluminium primers are of professional quality, guaranteeing perfect adhesion on car frames as well as excellent protection against corrosion.
Car frame paints are applied using a spray gun.
All types of car paints are suitable, from simple and effective 2K paints, to more complex effects using metallic, candy or other finishes (see below).
About car frame corrosion
Corrosion is a chemical process that causes metal to age through oxidisation by air and water.
Did you know that even if a metal is perfectly coated and protected on the outside, it is not entirely safe from corrosion?
Indeed, corrosion can develop beneath a topcoat and progress silently over time.
Primers, and even anti-corrosion topcoats, contain specific ingredients designed to block and prevent oxidisation.
Using special effect car paints on the car frame
With a special effects manufacturer like Stardust, there are many possibilities for customising your car frame.
We’re talking about special colours like chameleons, fluorescents, candy and many others.
Is the resistance of these special paints lower?
That question doesn’t arise, because they are essentially 1K basecoat car paints: resistance is ensured by the finishing topcoat.
The car frame topcoat
We can also talk about topcoats applied directly to bare metal — because it is now entirely possible, using adhesion topcoats and anti-corrosion topcoats.
The benefit is efficient protection while retaining the raw, original appearance of the car frame.
We then have the classic topcoats, applied as a final layer after painting.
What do we expect from a car frame topcoat, besides a glossy or matt appearance?
– Durability
– Abrasion resistance
– Water resistance
In this category, the ceramic topcoat outperforms all other topcoats on the market by 50 to 75% in terms of hardness and scratch resistance.
