Presentation of PPG D8434 Plastic Degreaser
PPG Deltron® D8434 Cleaner provides very effective cleaning and degreasing of bare, raw and new plastics.
This cleaner from the PPG range eliminates all invisible contaminants on new plastics, such as moulding oils, silicones and plasticisers.
Product Description
The PPG plastic substrate painting system brings together various products to successfully paint all plastic substrates capable of being painted*, from cleaning and preparation to texturing and application of the finish.
Thorough cleaning and preparation are essential for successful repair of plastic parts.
The Plastic Cleaning and Preparation System is designed to achieve the best results from finishing and priming systems.
D8434 – Plastic Substrate Cleaner is a detergent cleaner that helps remove all types of contaminants (e.g. mould release agents or traffic film) as part of the preparation process, ensuring excellent adhesion of the following layers.
PPG D846 Anti-Static Plastic Degreaser is a solvent-based alcohol solution specially formulated to treat plastic surfaces without damaging them and to prevent the build-up of electrostatic charges, ensuring a dust-free result.
Note: Some types of polyethylene (PE) are very difficult to paint or cannot be painted.
On the other hand, certain primers or paints should not be used on plastics that are very sensitive to solvents, such as polystyrene (PS).

Installation steps with PPG D8434 Cleaner for plastic surfaces
Mixing proportions (by volume) :
Plastics – standard: D8434 1 volume / Water 1 volume
Plastics – solvent-sensitive: D8434 1 volume / Water 2 volumes
Implementation
1st step
Apply with a grey abrasive pad, lightly sanding the surface.
Rinse well with clean water and allow to dry.
If the water beads up during rinsing, repeat the operation, as this means that surface tension remains.
2nd step
Apply antistatic agent for plastics D846 to the entire plastic part that is to be painted.
Use a clean lint-free cloth or fine abrasive pad to apply the product and wipe with a clean lint-free cloth.
Note: Do not apply antistatic agent D846 to solvent-sensitive plastics.
How to ensure adhesion to polypropylene and polyethylene plastics?
1 ► Degrease bare plastics with D8434 PPG Deltron® plastic substrate cleaner
2 ► Pass the plastics through a flame, using a gas torch with a triangular tip. 1 or 2 short passes are enough.
3 ► Sand the plastics with a green abrasive sponge dipped in a thinner-type solvent
4 ► Carry out a final cleaning with PPG Deltron® Anti-Static Cleaner D846 to remove static electricity and surface tension
5 ► Apply the adhesion promoter to PE or PP plastics in 1 coat and immediately follow with a thin layer of paint or primer to ensure perfect cohesion of the paintwork.
For plastics already painted:
For surfaces painted with hydro paints, and in particular before applying a Clearcoat, use the mild degreaser D837 PPG Deltron® Spirit Wipe which is a general cleaner
For surfaces painted with solvent-based paints, use BS Refinish Degreaser
