How much TESLA paint should I allow for?

The amount required naturally depends on the surface area to be repainted and the type of repair.

Approximate coverage per tin: approximately 5 m²/L with two coats.

For the aerosol version, allow for a maximum of:

1 x 400 ml TESLA spray paint can = approximately 0.5 m².

Whether you’re carrying out a simple touch-up, repairing a body panel or undertaking a more extensive repaint, choose your pack size based on the total surface area to be covered.

How do I find out the colour code for my TESLA?

To match a manufacturer’s colour accurately, it is important to provide us with the exact paint code for your Tesla, rather than simply the colour’s trade name.

Depending on the vehicle’s model and year, the information required to identify the exact specification and colour may vary. If you are unsure, please provide us with the information you have so that our colour matching department can help you identify the correct part number.

It is particularly advisable to carry out this check before ordering paint for a spot repair on an existing bodywork.

Application of TESLA matt-finish paint

Mixing and dilution

The 250 ml and 500 ml packs are supplied ready for use.

For the kits, the paint is supplied undiluted with the corresponding thinner. It should be diluted to between 60 and 80%, in accordance with the instructions printed directly on the tin.

Make sure you stir the paint thoroughly before use.

Application by spray gun

For an even and professional finish, it is best to use a spray gun fitted with a nozzle of approximately 1.3 mm.

Start by applying a very thin coat. This allows you to assess the surface and spot any imperfections.

Then apply one or two coats, leaving a gap of about 5 minutes between coats.

For metallic or pearlescent colours, finish with a light half-coat. Reduce the pressure slightly and increase the distance between the spray gun and the bodywork to ensure an even distribution of pigments and particles.

This paint is a matt primer: it must therefore be finished with an automotive clear coat.

After applying the final coat of paint, leave it to dry for about 15 minutes, then apply the varnish.

It is not advisable to wait too long before applying the top coat. In theory, after about 30 minutes, the bond between the coats is no longer guaranteed under the same conditions.

Preparing the bodywork before painting

It is not necessary to apply a primer systematically if the existing paintwork is sound and adheres properly.

In many cases, a light sanding with 800-grit sandpaper is all that is needed to create the necessary grip for the new paint.

After sanding:

• carefully remove any dust;

• dry the surface thoroughly;

• degrease the bodywork using a suitable degreaser;

• Use a lint-free cloth to remove any remaining dust before painting.

In particular, this preparation helps to reduce the risk of reactions caused by invisible contaminants on the bodywork.

It is not necessary to completely strip old paint that is in good condition before applying the new finish.
