To paint the motorcycle, a varnish is necessary. This varnish is applied just after painting and it is this that provides shine, shine, but also resistance to rain, scratches and chemicals. You will also find this varnish at the bottom of the page. It is a bodywork varnish and it must always be 2-component. We offer a large selection of varnishes, including 2-component aerosol packaging.
During the preparation phase before painting, it is common to have to apply a primer: this primer allows you to obtain not only a perfectly smooth surface, but also it will create a solid color background. It is very important to have a uniform color background, so as not to create differences in tones and shades, especially when using pearlescent paints, which have a certain level of transparency.
On the other hand, each manufacturer tint has characteristics, including the obligation sometimes to use a certain background color. It can be a shade of gray or black and even white, and this is made possible with our primers. In other more special cases, a specific undercoat is recommended. This concerns only 10% of shades, in the case of “tri-layer” colours.

Body paints are available both in Hydro version (this is what is used by bodybuilders) or in solvent version (this is what we offer).
Solvent-based paints clearly have advantages over water-based paints. First of all, they dry faster and they are also much finer and easier to paint, but also to sand. Finally, their estimated lifetime is twice that of water-based paints.
Our professional solvent-based paint offers are available in cans or aerosols. The minimum packaging for the manufacture of a tint is 250 ml. The 400 ml aerosol format is a little cheaper, but it should be understood that the aerosol contains just 100 ml of paint, the rest of the volume is gas. Pot paints are delivered and ready to use. They do not require a hardener, as they are single-component paints. Only formats from the 1L kit are delivered with the pure paint on one side and the thinner on the other.
Our advice for the success of your SACHS painting is to clearly visualize the different stages, which are represented by the different layers of paint, but also the stages of preparation, sanding and drying time. The first step is the preparation of the support. We recommend the use of a filling primer. After complete drying through, i.e. approximately 6 hours at 20°, sanding must be carried out with 500 grit. Never sand finer than 500 grit, because beyond that, the paint will not have sufficient and guaranteed adhesion. You can sand perfectly from 320 up to 500.
The second step is represented by painting the SACHS color code. For pearlescent and metallic pigmented shades, it is sufficient to apply very thin layers and repeat its layers until the background is completely covered. It is totally inadvisable to let the paint dry completely and to sand it. It is better to apply the clearcoat directly and without waiting, in order to benefit from the “wet on wet” adhesion power.
To crown the application of your original Sachs paint, you must apply the gloss varnish. After having made your mixture, you must apply 2 coats with an interval of 10 minutes.
To work, choose a place with good air circulation and take care to evacuate and fix dust to the floor, especially during the varnishing phase. After 24 hours of drying, you can easily polish the varnish to remove imperfections.
The story of SACHS begins in 1895, at the dawn of automobile history, in Germany. It was founded by Ernst SACHS. This family company was called ZF SACHS AG. This manufacturer was specialized in the production of metal parts for automobiles, such as chassis, transmission shafts, suspensions...
It also produced motorcycles and engine parts. One of its branches will be called SACHS Motorcycles, which will deal with the manufacture of all types of motor vehicles on 2 and 3 wheels. At the very beginning of the SACHS adventure, and even before its creation in 1895, the first manufacture of bicycles dates back to 1894. Even before the year 1900, the small factory had 70 workers and produced 50 to 70 bicycles every day.
The company has created numerous patents for its innovations in the field of bicycles and motorcycles. It fought from the beginning of the 20th century with the counterfeiting already present in China. The ball bearing is one of his most brilliant inventions. Even before the First World War, the Sachs company had already registered around a hundred patents.
All these patents allowed the rapid growth and multiplication of the sales figures of the different productions, so that the number of employees increased to almost 8000 employees in the different factories during the First World War.
The company was lucky to be spared the evils of the war and was able to continue its activity during and after the war, and even opened new factories in the United States during the First World War. During the 1920s, it was the period of crazy inflation that would hit Germany and yet the company would do just as well, and increase its activity even more. In the 1930s, the company will sell part of its factories and will invest the income from its sales in research and development. In 1932, the founder died and his son took over the management of the company. It is the time of the production of the first motorcycles equipped with 60 cm³ engine.
During the Second World War, 2/3 of the factories were razed to the ground by fighting and bombing. The company survived there and 10 years later, new models of motorcycles, with much larger displacements of up to 400 or 600 cm³, came out of the Sachs factories.
In contemporary times, Sachs still produces many different engine or mechanical parts, including its specialty: ball bearings.
Knowing the reference of a motorcycle paint is not as easy as for a car or truck type vehicle. Strangely, the paint references are kept quite confidential by the various commercial actors, such as dealers. It is unfortunately true that we cannot find the color codes on the chassis or the official documents.
If you bought your motorcycle new from the dealer, you will surely be able to find the paint references, whether it is a code or a name, somewhere on the original Sachs motorcycle booklet.
One of the most effective techniques is to make a few attempts on search engines, and in particular on the various forums specializing in the brand. A lot of information is shared there, it's not always accurate but it's still better than nothing.
