Hikari Toys paints are specially formulated for the decoration of soft PVC vinyl toys and dolls. They are part of the wide range of HIKARI® paints for model making and hobby. Their composition and properties are especially suitable for airbrush customization of Kaijus or other fantastic beings from the world of Sofubi® Soft Art.

Their unique characteristics combine

a very high resistance,
a very good flexibility,
a very fast hardening,
adhesion to all soft vinyl toys directly
a certain level of gloss imitating plastic

Hikari Toys is a solvent-based vinyl-acrylic paint that forms a thick, glossy coat that looks like dolls' material after drying. Very robust, the glossy finish is totally resistant to scratches, rubbing and shocks, after only 1 hour of drying.

These paints are designed for amateur and professional toy art specialists in SOFUBI (contraction of Japanese SOFUTO BINIIRU which means PVC plastic). These paints are not suitable for children.

These are single-component solvent-based finishes

No primer or clearcoat is required,

Excellent adhesion on soft PVC without sanding

Through-drying in 1 hour at 20°C

Colors for PVC Toys

Based on ultra-covering, light-fast and ultra-fine pigments.

The Hikari Toys Artistic SOFVI Paint color series consists of approximately 65 colors:

Monopigmentary reference colors / primary colors (Color index*)
Blend colors (mixtures of shades) for ready-to-use colors

TRANSPARENT or OPAQUE?

Among the color palettes, there are naturally opaque colors and semi-transparent colors.
Opaque colors have excellent covering power, while the others naturally retain a certain transparency.

USE
Transparent colors are used to let the light "pass through" and to give more subtle tones thanks to the technique of overlays.
Transparent colors should always be applied on a white or light background.
To obtain the opacity, you must mix the transparent color with an opaque color: example Phtallo Blue (trans) + white

Mixing :

Tips on thinning and drying
Soft Vinyl paint reacts and dries very quickly.
it is necessary to thin sufficiently with normal thinner or retarder
In order to limit the speed of airbrush drying, we recommend the following dilution:
Paint: 100% thinning- pressure 1.5 bars, nozzles between 0.3mm and 0.5mm,
Drawing: 150% thinning- pressure 1 bar, nozzles between 0.15mm and 0.2mm.

How to apply :

Ensure proper degreasing of the surface.

The surface of the toy or doll must be free of moisture, grease or dust

Apply 1 to 2 coats, allowing a few minutes between coats.

Tool cleaning :

Use the cleaning thinner to rinse and clean tools after use

Safety :

Be sure to read and follow the safety instructions. To protect yourself from solvent evaporation during application and drying, use a paint mask, vinyl gloves, and work with a mini spray booth or with sufficient air circulation.
